How To Check Zone Of Sand at Site | Fineness Modulus of Sand Limit | Learning Technology
During Sieve Analysis of particle size distribution, a term is used known as ‘ Fineness Modulus’ (F.M.). It is a ready index of coarseness or fineness of the material. It is an empirical factor obtained by adding the Cumulative Percentage Weight retained on each of the standard sieves ranging from 80 mm to 150 micron and dividing this sum by an arbitrary number 100. The larger the value, the coarser is the material.
The following are the Fineness Modulus limits :
Fine Sand : F.M : 2.2 – 2.6
Medium Sand : F.M : 2.6 – 2.9
Coarse Sand : F.M : 2.9 – 3.2
Here is a Video by Learning Technology, explaining very beautifully, How to check the Zone of Sand at site practically.
